WHAT'S YOUR NAMdAR STORY?
Namdar Realty Group, a national real estate investment firm, referred to in Bloomberg News in 2021 as a billionaire “bottom feeder,” has begun buying up commercial office properties in New York City.
There have been ongoing protests at 345 7th Ave, where Namdar and its ownership partner Empire Capital have building staff working under an expired labor contract. Real Deal reported that a lender recently initiated a foreclosure under the Uniform Commercial Code.
Namdar failed to hire an elevator maintenance company at 345 7th Ave, a 27-floor building and has also received repeated fire safety violations.
Namdar was part of a group of investors that purchased 529 5th Avenue last year where the building maintenance staff had worked under an industry labor contract for many years providing good wages and benefits. The new ownership recently retained an irresponsible cleaning contractor that slashed the workers’ wages and benefits, prompting a strike at the building over an unfair labor practice charge that 32BJ filed against the contractor.
Namdar is also defending lawsuits elsewhere in the country where plaintiffs have accused Namdar of providing false information and failing to maintain buildings.
32BJ SEIU, the largest union of building service workers, knows that workers, tenants and owners have common interests: stable, clean and safely well-maintained buildings.
We also know the importance of coming together to fight for what’s right.
What’s YOUR Namdar tenant story?
