Security Youth Council

Are you interested in being a part of the Security Youth Council?

Do you think you have what it takes to support worker leaders taking bold action to win economic and social justice at their workplaces and beyond?

Mission Statement

Bring awareness to young security members about their union, as well as opportunities available to them through union membership and the importance of moving to action. Create a safe space for new ideas as well as fellowship through organized labor.

The 32BJ Security Youth Council offers a unique opportunity for the new generations of  security officers to learn the basics of workers organizing and about how the labor movement works. The program offers hands-on organizing experience through campaign field work, moving workers to take action, winning change as well as combined regular labor history and skill building workshops.

Participants in the program will build skills in: conversations with security officers in the workplace about the power of a union; identifying workplace leaders; mapping a workplace; mobilizing workers to take action; supporting and planning protests, demonstrations, and actions. The security youth council program will put your skills into action in New York. Strengthen and develop your skills for campaigns of all kinds.

Local 32BJ has implemented a vaccine mandate.  Bona fide religious and ADA exemptions are permitted with additional safety measures.

About 32BJ

With 175,000 members SEIU 32BJ is the largest union representing property service workers in the country. Our members have fought for and achieved high standards for private and public sector property service workers, and we continue to fight for higher standards for thousands of unorganized workers.

SEIU 32BJ is growing quickly by organizing workers who are fighting for a living wage, affordable healthcare, respect, and a voice in their future. We are committed to transforming the lives of janitors, security officers, commercial and residential cleaners, food service and other service workers. Our aggressive campaigns support workers who are fighting to win power by building a union in their workplace.
