32BJ SEIU Praises Virginia State Legislature’s Passage of Medicaid Expansion

(Arlington, VA) The following statement is attributable to Jaime Contreras, a Vice President at 32BJ SEIU:

“As fewer and fewer people have employer-paid health coverage for themselves, much less their families, elections have consequences that can mean the difference between life and death. That’s why 32BJ members joined commonsense Virginians in electing leaders who fought to protect health care for working families over those who are bought by corporate special interests and abuse their power by cutting life-saving programs like Medicaid.”

Hundreds of 32BJ union volunteers knocked on over 18,000 doors and made over 5,000 contacts throughout the Commonwealth on behalf of Northam and rest of the Democratic ticket in 2017.

With 163,000 members in 11 states, 32BJ SEIU is the largest property service workers union in the country. 32BJ SEIU represents 18,000 property service workers in the D.C. area, including 4,000 commercial office cleaners and private security officers who live and work in Virginia.
