32BJ SEIU: Butkovitz Re-election Important to Holding the Line Against Governor Corbett’s Attacks on Public Education

PHILADELPHIA–32BJ of the Service Employees International Union today celebrated the re-election of Alan Butkovitz for Controller. 32BJ SEIU, the union representing the Philadelphia School District’s blue collar workers, endorsed Butkovitz in the primary and has done a voter outreach program on his behalf.

Gabe Morgan, 32BJ SEIU Pennsylvania Director made the following statement:

“It’s more important than ever that Philadelphia re-elects bold leaders like Alan Butkovitz who will hold the line against Governor Corbett’s relentless attacks on Philadelphia public schools. Governor Corbett announced his re-election campaign today in Pittsburgh with an erroneous revision of his administration’s disastrous education policy.

“Thankfully, Philadelphia re-elected a Controller who is not afraid to tell the truth about the Governor Corbett-created education crisis. Alan Butkovitz’s work on charter school accountability led to new ethics standards that helped put children’s education ahead of charter school’s profits. At least the students, parents and teachers suffering under Corbett’s slash-and-burn education plan will still have a public education advocate in the Controller’s office.”

***Tomorrow, Governor Tom Corbett opens his re-election campaign in Philadelphia. Public education supporters will be there to remind voters of how his education policies have devastated Philadelphia schools.***
