32BJ Endorses Ryan Henowitz for State Senate

NEW LONDON, CT—32BJ members today announced their endorsement of Ryan Henowitz for election to the Connecticut State Senate in the 20th District, which includes the city of New London.  The members endorsed Henowitz, who is running on the Democratic and Working Families Party tickets, to help win a higher minimum wage and more full-time hours for Connecticut workers next year.

Ryan Henowitz was raised in Montville and has worked as a legislative aide and policy analyst, as well as serving two tours of duty as a medic during the Iraq War. He earned the endorsement of 32BJ members for his strong support for a higher minimum wage in Connecticut and protecting worker’s rights. In contrast, incumbent State Senator Paul Formica cosponsored legislation to eliminate pensions for public sector workers, cut their pay, and increase their medical copays, while supporting a Republican proposal that would give tax cuts to the rich.

“The hard-working janitors and security officers of 32BJ provide the base for our entire economy, and I thank them for their endorsement. I am honored by their support, and I look forward to fighting for all working people at the State House for wages and work hours sufficient to support themselves and their families.”

“This year more than ever, our members are supporting candidates who will tackle issues that affect working people,” said 32BJ Connecticut District Assistant Supervisor Alberto Bernardez. “Ryan Henowitz is committed to our efforts to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour and provide more full time work. We are proud to endorse him for working people in New London and all the towns of the 20th Senate District.”
