NEW YORK- 32BJ members congratulate Mayor de Blasio, Public Advocate Tish James and other progressive candidates who won primary victories today in New York City. Along with the city-wide offices, the union backed a host of borough-wide and city council candidates, including Eric Gonzalez who won the primary for Democratic nominee for Brooklyn District attorney and Francisco Moya, Laurie Cumbo, Carlos Menchaca, Alicka Samuel and Keith Powers who won tough Democratic nominations for their City Council districts.
All 32BJ-backed candidates with competitive primaries won their races on Tuesday.
“Today voters showed that they want New York City to remain a place a progressive city with policies and laws that protect working families,” said 32BJ President Hector Figueroa. “32BJ members endorsed the candidates with a history of standing up for working people, immigrant rights, good public education, affordable housing, criminal justice, police reform. Now we’ll make sure that they are elected in November.”
