IS UBER ANTI-UNION?

From California to Massachusetts, the tech giant has opposed worker organizing by dressing old-school corporate greed in progressive clothing.

In California, Uber spent hundreds of millions to oppose drivers organizing for better pay and working conditions. Using deceptive slogans and images, the corporation managed to hoodwink voters into passing California’s Prop 22, which severely limits driver rights but “was marketed as a progressive measure.” (The Guardian, March 11, 2022).

Now, Uber is using the same playbook to oppose Ballot Question 3 in Massachusetts. This landmark measure would grant Uber and Lyft drivers the freedom to form a union if they so choose, giving Massachusetts rideshare drivers a voice for the first time and creating a model that drivers across the nation could follow.

But, as The Boston Herald reported on August 15, the company is again looking at ways to undermine the organizing campaign with pseudo-progressive poppycock intended to confuse voters and stop them from voting Yes On 3 in the general election this fall.

Together we can advance worker rights and prevent Uber from sliming this nation with deception from coast to coast.
