32BJ Congratulates Endorsed Candidates in Connecticut Primary Victories

HARTFORD, CT — The following statement may be attributed to Juan Hernandez, Vice-President of 32BJ SEIU.

“We’re thrilled by the selection of progressive candidates we endorsed across Connecticut in the Democratic Primary. In the state-wide races, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to Ned Lamont, William Tong and Shawn Wooden. We also congratulate Jahana Hayes for her historic win in 5th Congressional District. And in the Connecticut General Assembly, we congratulate Matt Lesser and Mary Abrams in their Senate primary victories, and Brandon McGee and Minnie Gonzalez for their primary wins in the Connecticut House of Representatives.

“We need these men and women in office as a defense against national attacks from wealthy interests that seek to divide working people by race and national origin, as well as strip them of basic rights. At home, this diverse slate of strong progressive candidates is committed to helping advance crucial issues like a $15 minimum wage, paid family leave, and the protection of all our state’s peace-loving residents no matter their immigration status. These candidates’ victories mark a victory for the hardworking residents of our great state who wake up every morning to go to work looking for a better life for their families. ”
