HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania State Council of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) congratulates all of our endorsed candidates for their Primary Election victories on Tuesday, as well as all victorious candidates with a proven record of standing up for working families. With the strong support of SEIU members, state Supreme Court candidates Kevin Dougherty and David Wecht were victorious, as was Philadelphia Mayoral candidate Jim Kenney.

“On behalf of the 80,000 hardworking SEIU members in Pennsylvania, we congratulate all of our endorsed candidates on their primary election victories,” said Gabe Morgan, President of the State Council and Pennsylvania State Director for SEIU 32BJ. “With SEIU members knocking on doors, making calls and helping to get out the vote, Jim Kenney’s victory is a pivotal moment for the future of Philadelphia. As mayor, he’ll fight for working families, create better schools, support airport workers and a $15-an-hour minimum wage.”

“The victories of Judges Kevin Dougherty and David Wecht comes at an unprecedented moment when we have the opportunity to change the composition of the Supreme Court,” said Neal Bisno, Secretary-Treasurer of the State Council and President of SEIU Healthcare Pennsylvania. “These candidates have the passion and wisdom to restore dignity to a court that has been plagued by scandal and has disenfranchised hundreds of thousands of Pennsylvania voters.”

“Each of these candidates ran great campaigns, and voters responded to their positive messages about rebuilding our cities and our courts,” said Tom Herman, President of SEIU Local 668.  “The voices and votes of SEIU members have been heard loud and clear in this election.”
