What: A rally and press conference outside jetBlue’s headquarters.

Who: Airport cleaners who work for JetBlue’s subcontractors Roma and Ultimate Aircraft at JFK Airport will be joined by elected officials, clergy, community members and 32BJ members who support their call for living wages, benefits and the right to union representation.

Why: JetBlue contracts out its terminal cleaning and cabin cleaning work to subcontractors Roma and Ultimate Aircraft. These subcontracted workers keep JetBlue’s JFK Airport terminal clean and get airplanes ready for departure.  Without them, passengers would not have the healthy, safe or comfortable trips that JetBlue boasts.

JetBlue touts its “Bluemanity,” telling passengers that safety, integrity and humanity are important to the company. Behind the scenes however, Roma and Ultimate Aircraft airport workers are struggling to survive.

They are paid poverty wages that force too many of them to rely on government assistance. They have been forced to file multiple OSHA health and safety complaints. And their issues – lack of training, lack of adequate protective equipment like gloves and goggles, exposure to bodily fluids and more — are not only a concern for workers but to passengers as well. Is this Bluemanity?

Tomorrow, Roma and Ultimate cleaners are telling JetBlue to hold true to its values and tell its subcontractors to treat airport workers with humanity.
