Newark—32BJ SEIU members have announced their support for Democratic candidates Annette Quijano and Jamel Holley in the 20th Legislative District Assembly primary race. Both candidates, who currently serve in the Assembly, have distinguished themselves as dedicated and formidable leaders who have and will continue to stand up for working people and disenfranchised residents of the great state of New Jersey.
“Assemblywoman Annette Quijano has marched side by side with our airport workers who are struggling to get by because they don’t make enough money to make ends meet,” said Kevin Brown, 32BJ Vice President and New Jersey State Director. “She is a true champion of the people. Quijano is a tireless public servant who has fought inequality and injustice and has made it her mission to improve the quality of life for all residents. And her years of experience serving in both the legislature and formerly as Assistant Governor’s Counsel make Quijano an outstanding candidate. That’s why our members have chosen to enthusiastically endorse Quijano in her reelection bid.
“Jamel Holley is a bright and accomplished individual who has dedicated much of his life to public service,” said Brown. “Holley came from a family with modest means so he understands the challenges working people face every day to support themselves and their families. Holley has made a commitment to support legislation that will improve standards and wages for people who clock in and out of work every day so they can provide a bright future for themselves and their families. This is the kind of leader our members want in the statehouse—one who truly represents all of the residents. That’s why 32BJ members have voted to support Jamel Holley in the 20th Legislative District Assembly primary race.
“We are humbled to receive the endorsement of the 32BJ SEIU. To be supported by an organization whose mission is to protect and fight for working families is a validation of the core principles our campaign is about,” said Quijano and Holley in a joint statement. “Growing up in working, single parent families, we both understand the importance of increasing the minimum wage, protecting pensions and providing equal health care and opportunity for all. That is what we will always fight for.”
32BJ looks forward to mobilizing our members to help Quijano and Holley win their primary races.
Several other candidates have been endorsed by 32BJ members. They include Nicholas Chiaravalloti and Angela V. McKnight for Assembly in the 31st Legislative District.
