32BJ Members Endorse Yuh-Line Niou for State Assembly

NEW YORK— 32BJ SEIU members today announced their endorsement of Yuh-Line Niou for State Assembly to represent the 65th District in Lower Manhattan.

32BJ members voted overwhelmingly to endorse Niou in the special election on Primary Day, April 19.

“Yuh-Line is a fighter who stands in solidarity with working people,” said 32BJ President Hector Figueroa. “On Martin Luther King Day in January, during a civil disobedience protest for raising the wages and benefits of airport workers, she was arrested along with workers, 32BJ members and community and elected leaders. She supports the Fight For $15, Paid Family Leave and other important social issues that we are fighting for in Albany, NYC and throughout our state.”

Thousands of 32BJ members live and work in the 65th District, which includes Wall Street, the World Trade Center and other locations vital to NYC.

Niou has had a career built on activism and advocacy and in her role as Chief of Staff for Assemblymember Ron Kim, she has focused on helping immigrants, working people and seniors. 32BJ members are supporting her because they know she will focus on expanding affordable housing in our city and our state, creating good jobs and green jobs and providing vital services for older New Yorkers.

Niou has been endorsed by the Working Families Party, the United Federation of Teachers, NYC Comptroller Stringer, Former NYC Comptroller Liu, Make the Road Action and others.

With more than 155,000 members in 11 states, including 70,000 in New York City, 32BJ SEIU is the largest property service workers union in the country.
