32BJ SEIU is one of the largest and most dynamic labor unions in the United States, with 175,000 members in 11 states and Washington, DC. The Union is at the forefront of driving a progressive policy agenda including raising the minimum wage, responsible procurement and development standards, and access to quality healthcare for working families.
We currently have an opening for a bilingual Welcome Center Representative (WCR) to work in our walk-in Member Center in Manhattan. WCRs are the first point of contact for members who come to the Center to address issues at their worksites.
WCRs are an engaged and responsive team that meets with individual members daily, to hear, understand and triage each issue. They enter relevant information into our complaint tracking system, in accordance with established protocols, to ensure that complaints are properly handled. The WCR can also answer union contract questions directy, look up and confirm the status of an active grievance, or process a member’s request for a leave of absence.
The WCR is charged with a high level of independent judgment to work with members to undertand and record workplace issues that could lead to grievances.
Candidates must demonstrate a clear commitment to social justice, and an interest in representing workers from diverse backgrounds. Strong written and oral English and Albanian skills are required.
Candidates must have strong listening and communication skills in order to work with diverse members who are presenting workplace issues.
Strong writing and computer skills are required, as the WCR is required to use 32BJ databases and an electronic grievance tracking system.
WCRs normally work regular business hours, but must have the flexibility to work additional hours if necessary.
SEIU 32BJ offers a competitive salary. An excellent benefits package includes employer-paid family health, dental and vision plans, plus a 401k and pension plan.
Please email a letter of interest and a resume to Human Resources at HR@seiu32bj.org. Please use the reference “WCR” in the subject line of your email. Women and people of color are encouraged to apply.
