Thanks to the support of 32BJ members, Montgomery County, MD Council has unanimously passed a bill requiring employers to provide paid sick days for all workers.
This means workers in Montgomery County never again have to choose between seeking medical attention and losing a day’s pay – or worse – worry about losing their jobs.
Paid sick days will help 32BJ members like Miriam Pineda, who told the Washington Post her story of how she was once away from work for a week with diabetes and heart-related issues, but received only three paid sick days from her employer.
Results like this show that when 32BJ and our members fight, we win. Over the past four years, we’ve won paid sick days in Connecticut and Massachusetts, New York City, Jersey City, Newark, Philadelphia, and now Montgomery County.
And we’re expanding the fight for paid sick days to even more cities and states. In Pittsburgh, PA, our members are fighting to pass legislation so that workers there can have access to paid sick days too.
It makes no sense when people work and don’t have access to paid sick days. Getting sick is inevitable, and when it happens, workers should be able to fully recover and still be able to earn a salary.
You can help the workers in Pittsburgh by signing this petition and letting the Pittsburgh City Council know how important paid sick days legislation is for working people like us.
Paid sick days are something that every worker deserves. Please sign the petition now.
