Dear Mayor de Blasio,
NYCSSS, a new corporation that was created to be the employer for all New York City public school cleaners and handypersons, was created to improve conditions for all our members and create a fairer system. However, NYCSSS has not yet fulfilled that promise.
Many are missing paychecks for weeks.
Many are getting paid at a lower rate than what they are entitled to.
Workers have been laid off unjustly, without the opportunity to move to nearby schools, as their contract allows.
NYCSSS is understaffed, it has no office to receive complaints in person and it is impossible to reach them by phone.
This is unacceptable and only delays the promise of Equal Pay for Equal Work that you are committed to. We are asking that you do everything in your power to fix NYCSSS as quickly as possible to fulfill the promise you made to us.
