Philadelphia –32BJ SEIU—the union representing commercial office cleaners, Philadelphia School District blue collar workers, security officers and other property service workers—today celebrated the election of Larry Krasner for District Attorney and Rebecca Rhynhart for City Controller.
“Larry Krasner’s election is a referendum on decades’ old policies that disproportionately imprisoned people of color. Larry Krasner’s election is the first step in healing divisions in our communities and saving Philly taxpayers millions. At a time when the White House eagerly fans the flames of racism and anti-immigrant fervor, Philadelphia has shown itself to be a beacon of hope and progress by electing Krasner,” said Gabe Morgan, Vice President of 32BJ SEIU.
“Rebecca Rhynhart is the kind of progressive leader the city needs. She supports the Fight for $15 and other measures to fight rampant poverty in our city,” added Morgan. “She will be a strong ally in the fight for good public education for all of Philadelphia’s kids. In her role as the city’s watchdog, she will increase transparency and accountability to ensure that taxpayer dollars are put where they’re needed most.”
32BJ SEIU has successfully raised the wage and unionized thousands of Philadelphia airport workers and security officers and will continue to fight for policies that level the playing field for working families.
With more than 163,000 members in 11 states, 32BJ SEIU is the largest property service workers union in the country.
