Newark, N.J. – 32BJ, one of the fastest-growing unions in New Jersey with 12,000 members in the state, announced today its endorsement of current Paterson Councilman Andre Sayegh in his run for Paterson mayor in the upcoming May 8 election.
“Andre Sayegh is a tireless advocate for the City of Paterson and all its working men, women and families. This election for mayor is coming at an important time, a time when we need honest and enthusiastic leadership to move Paterson forward,” said Kevin Brown, Vice President and New Jersey State Director of 32BJ SEIU. “We endorse Andre Sayegh because he has a plan to extend his successful work in the sixth ward to the entire city of hard working Patersonians.
Brown also said several 32BJ members interviewed Sayegh this week where he discussed his commitment to ensuring Paterson is a city where diverse, working families can thrive. “We were impressed with his commitment to diversity and his background as both councilman and as a past member of Paterson’s Board of Education,” Brown added.
Sayegh said he was honored to receive the endorsement. “I am humbled by the support coming into our campaign and leading up to Election Day on May 8th. I appreciate and support the hard working members of 32BJ SEIU, and I welcome their support to my campaign. The support for my campaign by labor groups, teachers, trade organizations and community leaders is humbling,” Sayegh said.
With 163,000 members in eleven states and Washington, D.C., including over 12,000 in New Jersey, 32BJ SEIU is the largest property service workers union in the country.
