PHILADELPHIA-32BJ SEIU—the union representing Philadelphia commercial officer cleaners, security officers, blue collar school district workers and contracted airport workers—today announced that it has endorsed Alan Butkovitz for Controller.

“Controller Butkovitz has been tireless in rooting out corruption in charter schools and ensuring that our schools are safe for the children of Philadelphia,” said Gabe Morgan, 32BJ SEIU Vice President. “He has fought for retirement security so that all Philadelphians can grow old with dignity.

“Alan Butkovitz has increased transparency and protected Philadelphians from greed and corruption at a time when the White House is actively attacking working families,” added Morgan. “It is more important than ever to elect city leaders who will stand up to the special interests that undermine our rights, wages, education, health and safety.”

“I’ve worked in Philadelphia schools for 19 years and have seen first-hand the desperate need for more funding for building maintenance and supplies,” said Denise Bennett, a 32BJ SEIU member and General Cleaner with the School District of Philadelphia. “Butkovitz has my vote because he exposes the problems that keep our kids from having a clean and safe school environment. He demands accountability and is a watchdog for us.”

“32BJ is a powerful force against poverty in Philadelphia and I am proud to have their support. We’ve been on the front lines together fighting to improve the lives of low-wage workers so that they can earn a living wage, have access to health care and a dignified retirement. I look forward to continuing that critically important work as Controller,” said Controller Alan Butkovitz.

With more than 163,000 members in 11 states, including over 22,000 in PA and DE, 32BJ SEIU is the largest property service workers union in the country.
