The following statement can be attributed to Kevin Brown, 2BJ SEIU Vice President and NJ State Director.
“Congratulations to our new Governor, Phil Murphy, and our new Lt. Governor, Sheila Oliver, on their victory! The members of 32BJ are proud to be part of the movement that is bringing change to Trenton.
For the past few months, hundreds of 32BJ members have knocked on more than 25,000 doors; made 10,000 calls; texted 75,000 Latino voters; and spoke with fellow residents about the importance of electing a team ready to work for working families.
We now look forward to working with Gov-elect Murphy and Lt. Gov.-elect Oliver as they follow through on their campaign promises to deliver for working people in the Garden State, and to bring change to Newark airport. It’s time to ensure that the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey fulfills its promise to establish good wages, meaningful benefits and training for airport workers so that they can keep passengers safe and take care of their families.
During his campaign, Murphy heard the calls of low wage workers in our state and made the fight for $15 minimum wage central to his campaign platform. He also supports protecting immigrants and DREAMers, who represent the best of our state and contribute to our economy and enacting paid sick leave for all workers statewide.”
With 163,000 members in eleven states and Washington, D.C., 32BJ SEIU is the largest property service workers union in the country.
