New York - The teachers' union announced its endorsement of the candidate, Eric Schneiderman for attorney general in a press conference on the steps of City Hall.

Michael Mulgrev, president of the union (UFT by its acronym in English) justified the support by saying that Schneiderman is a representative that has always worked and listened to the community.

"We need an attorney general to uphold equality and justice for all New Yorkers," said Mulgrev, representing 200,000 members.

Schneiderman is the state senator for District 31, west of Manhattan and north of the Bronx, and has received support from important unions such as the 1199/SEIU and 32BJ, among others.

For Luz Minaya, Spanish and technology teacher at IS 528 in Washington Heights, the most important thing is that Schneiderman was part of the Campaign for Fiscal Equality to fight for equal funding for public schools in New York.

"He helped us a lot, and this favors minority children attending public schools," said Minaya.

Schneiderman acknowledged the support and stressed that only through education for all can justice and the American Dream be achieved. "I will not have another top priority greater than to fight every day for equality and justice for all New Yorkers," the candidate stated.

They also carried banners Schneiderman, the New York members of Communities for Change, but only one person was authorized by the spokesman of the organization to speak with El Diario / La Prensa.

"He is a man who is working with the community," said Elida Ramirez, 47.

Nueva York — El sindicato de profesores anunció ayer su respaldo al candidato para procurador general Eric Schneiderman en una conferencia de prensa en las escalinatas de la alcaldía.

Michael Mulgrev, presidente del sindicato (UFT por sus siglas en inglés) justificó el apoyo diciendo que Schneiderman es un representante que siempre ha trabajado y ha escuchado a la comunidad.

"Necesitamos un procurador general que defienda la igualdad y la justicia para todos los neoyorquinos", expresó Mulgrev, que representa a 200,000 miembros.

Schneiderman es senador estatal por el distrito 31, oeste de Manhattan y noroeste de El Bronx, y ha recibido el apoyo de importantes sindicatos como el 1199/SEIU y el 32BJ, entre otros.

Para Luz Minaya, profesora de español y tecnología en la escuela IS 528 en Washington Heights, lo más importante es que Schneiderman fue parte de la Campaña Fiscal por la Igualdad que lucha por la igualdad de fondos para escuelas públicas de Nueva York.

"Él nos ayudó bastante, y esto favorece a niños minoritarios de escuelas públicas", explicó Minaya.

Schneiderman agradeció el apoyo y recalcó que sólo a través de la educación para todos se puede lograr la justicia y el sueño americano. "No voy a tener otra prioridad mayor que pelear cada día por la equidad y la justicia para todos los neoyorquinos", estableció el candidato.

También portaron pancartas de Schneiderman miembros de New York Communities for Change, pero solo una persona fue autorizada por el vocero de la organización a hablar con El Diario/La Prensa.

"Es un señor que está colaborando con la comunidad", dijo Elida Ramírez, de 47 años.
