Speaking of endorsements

Nobody beats state Sen. Eric Schneiderman of the 31st District when it comes to colorful endorsements. He recently picked up the support of Alec Baldwin in his bid for state attorney general.

The award-winning actor and liberal activist has been an active supporter of the Democratic Party through the years. And while there may be many reasons to want Mr. Baldwin on your side, here are three reasons that might make one reconsider whether the impolitic 52 year-old-actor is really a star sponsor.

  • The “thoughtless little pig” fiasco in 2007, in which a voicemail leaked to TMZ.com revealed Mr. Baldwin berating his 14-year-old daughter. Mr. Baldwin defended himself by saying his anger was stirred by ex-wife Kim Basinger’s lawyer, who, according to Mr. Baldwin, resembled “a 300 pound homunculus with a face like a clenched fist,” a description Mr. Baldwin described as “kind.”
  • When the National Enquirer’s Mike Walker claimed that Mr. Baldwin screamed at Tina Fey on the set of 30 Rock, the New York Post reported that Mr. Baldwin said Mr. Walker was “a goat footed, wheezy, old queen, and all my male lovers agree with me.”
  • Mr. Baldwin reportedly attacked a New York Post photographer outside of his home in February and also allegedly punched a photographer on the day he and Ms. Basinger brought their baby home in 1995.

If Mr. Baldwin doesn’t help knock out Mr. Schneiderman’s competition, maybe support from 1199/SEIU United Healthcare East, the state’s largest labor union, and 32BJ, the largest private sector union, as well as, 90 federal, state, and local elected officials, the UAW and the Uniformed Sanitationmen’s Association, will.
