NEW YORK - Management and workers at the nation's biggest cooperative housing complex have reached a tentative contract agreement.
Three weeks ago, New York City health officials declared an emergency because uncollected garbage was piling up at the 320-acre Co-Op City complex in the Bronx.
The deal announced Wednesday requires final approval from members of the Service Employees International Union and the board of RiverBay Corp. The full terms of the contract will not be released until after the ratification vote. No date has been set.
Both sides say the tentative agreement ensures quality service to Co-op City's nearly 60,000 residents, with salary adjustments and health care.
The unionized Co-Op City staff includes garbage collectors, janitors, repairmen, groundskeepers and other building workers.
