State Assemblyman Adriano Espaillat is slated to get the endorsement of 70,000-member SEIU Local 32BJ in Washington Heights this morning.
The endorsement of the building workers' union -- the largest private-sector union in the state -- is one of the first in this year's election cycle and only the second Senate endorsement (the first being for Mike Gianaris in Queens), and comes with promises of help with field ops.
Espaillat, who faces Mark Levine, seeks to replace state Sen. Eric Schneiderman, who, as you know, is running for state attorney general.
The two campaigns have tangled in the past, as I've blogged here.
"As a member of the Assembly and an active member of his community, Adriano Espaillat has fought tirelessly for the rights of working families and immigrants," said Héctor Figueroa, 32BJ Secretary Treasurer. "32BJ is proud to get behind candidates like Adriano who will bring strong leadership to the Senate."
