Guards’ Health Care Grounded

Printer Friendly version

Published: March 25, 2009

SEIU Local 32BJ security officers will attend the Port Authority’s board meeting tomorrow and demand that the agency bring the training and benefits of 500 guards at La Guardia and Kennedy airports in line with those who work at its other operations. Officers at Newark Liberty International Airport and the World Trade Center site receive family health care coverage and a 40-hour training course, but those at La Guardia and JFK do not. For its part, the authority has sued Florida-based Covenant Aviation Security—its contractor at the two city airports—alleging that the company reneged on a promise to boost workers’ benefits. Covenant did not return a call.
