For his service and dedication after 27 years, Carlos Pellicier, a doorman at 1380 Riverside Drive, Washington Heights, is getting recognition from the whole City for his work, with the Award Doorman of the Year, a prize given to service building employees by Local 3BJ.
Attune to the area and residents' safety, Carlos immediately began evacuating the building when a supporting wall at the nearby Castle Village collapsed in 2005. Many of the residents were already out of the building when City officials mandated the building be cleared.
Dependable during the emergencies and part of the family for years, Carlos received nominations from a number of residents who consider him family. Carlos, a native New Yorker raised in a Puerto Rican household, was nominated by the tenants who consider him family. His wife, 16-year-old son and tenants from the building were at the awards ceremony on Thursday helping him celebrate.
