A doorman at an apartment building in New York's Manhattan borough has been voted the best the West Side has to offer.
Carlos Pellecier, doorman at a 20-story Riverside Drive building, was voted the best doorman in a competition organized by the service union Local 32BJ and Manhattan Media, a consortium of neighborhood newspapers, the New York Daily News reported Friday.
"There's nothing I won't do for these people," Pellecier said of the building tenants. "After being here 40 hours a week for 27 years, I really care about them."
Tenants confirmed Pellecier's devotion to his job, saying the doorman regularly offers marital advice, counseling and a helping hand
Ann Farmer, a building tenant, said she returned to the building one night 12 years ago after being mugged and Pellecier immediately bolted out the door, tackled the mugger and wrestled Farmer's purse from the thief's grasp.
"I didn't know he could run like that," Farmer said. "He's really special."
