Security guards at the MetLife building have joined Local 32BJ SEIU, which is set to negotiate a new contract with Securitas/Burns. The union is conducting an organization campaign for guards, who tend to get low pay and skimpy benefits. Guards at the building, owned by Tishman Speyer, earn as little as $10.25 an hour. The union aims to win a wage increase and employer-paid health coverage.
