Security officers demand better wages

Published: May 9, 2008

Hundreds of security officers that work in building across the five boroughs along with activists and leaders of Local 32BJ marched in Midtown Manhattan.

They demand better wages, benefits, paid training and industry transparency.

“We protect buildings worth billions of dollars, but are paid peanuts for our hard work,” said Ivan Shelley, a non-union security officer who works at a Park Avenue commercial office building.

The campaign that Local 32BJ support takes place in the middle of negotiations with the Realty Advisory Board which represents owners and managers of commercial office buildings in the City.

Managers for this company weren’t available yesterday afternoon for comments with Hoy.
