More than 26,000 office building workers are threatening to strike on New Year's Day if their contract demands aren't met.
Their union – Local 32-BJ – says it will call a strike if a wage increase is denied. In the meantime, they have scheduled a rally for tomorrow in Midtown to garner support.
The union represents janitors, doormen and elevator operators who work at most of the city's commercial buildings.
The union says it will tell management negotiators how much of a raise it wants by December 27th, five days before the contract deadline.
Industry watchers say the workers are already the highest paid among their counterparts in the country but union reps say their members should reap some of the benefits of ballooning commercial rent rates in the city.
