Once again, the Census Bureau report reads like the best of times and the worst of times for Connecticut [Page 1, Aug. 27, "State's Rate Of Insured On Rise"]. While half of the children in Hartford and more than one-quarter in Bridgeport and New Haven are growing up in poverty, some of the wealthiest people in the country are living just a few miles outside these cities.

Despite promises by our state's leaders to bring children out of poverty, little has been done to help working families who are struggling to make ends meet.

Connecticut's working families, and low-wage workers in particular, can't afford to wait for next year's census, when the numbers will be even more disturbing.

On Nov. 4, we need to elect leaders who are ready to act on behalf of working families, and we're working to help do just that.
