"With provisions for prevailing wages and affordable housing, the
City's rezoning plan for developing the Greenpoint-Williamsburg waterfront
ensures fair, equitable and sustainable development for community residents,
workers and the real estate industry. The development will create some
500 good-paying building service jobs that will help workers support their
families and provide a much-needed boost to local businesses.
"Furthermore, the plan upholds hard-fought labor standards that building
service workers depend on across the City and serves as a model for responsible
development in New York City.
"We thank Mayor Bloomberg, City Council Speaker Gifford Miller,
Land Use Committee Chairwoman Melinda Katz, Assemblyman Vito Lopez, HPD
Commissioner Shaun Donovan, all the members of the New York City Council
and the real estate industry, who worked hard with us to produce a plan
that is equitable and sustainable." |
