Maria Ramirez is a 32BJ member who immigrated from Mexico 25 years ago. She only received her green card in 2011. Until then, she and her husband lived more than two decades in fear of being arrested in raids and leaving their children without their parents.
“No family deserves to live in fear, not if they work, not if they go to school and live their lives with dignity,” Maria says.
Maria gave birth to three sons in the US and she and her husband were able to buy a house due to their hard work. She has been working as a cleaner for 13 years.
“I wanted to study but I was never able to because I wasn’t documented and in that way, I lost out on many opportunities,” she says.
Maria is joining 32BJ and millions of Americans in calling for immigration reform that includes a pathway to citizenship and keeps families united.
