Security officers in Baltimore make as little as $9 per hour without meaningful benefits. That’s why we’ve been trying to bargain our first-ever union contract, but it’s been a long, hard struggle since September, 2014. Although we’re tired and fed up, we’re not giving up.
When we celebrated the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, it was a reminder that he was a man who persevered against what the odds looked like and what others said was impossible.
He’s a true hero and pioneer. His fight for equality for all is definitely a reflection of what we as security officers are fighting for: economic fairness, respect and a voice.
The fight is hard and our situations are real.
But through this fight we are getting stronger and we will win.
I am proud to be a part of this fight knowing that when we win, our standard of living will have increased for us and those to follow.
So we will not back down, no matter what.
