We have to work together so we’re able to keep the things we have, like our health care and other benefits.

32BJ President

2016 is a presidential election year — a real opportunity to draw national attention to the issues we as a union movement are fighting for every day.

Just minutes ago, after a long process during which all candidates – Republican and Democratic – were asked to outline their positions on the issues central to the working men and women who make up our union, the Executive Board of SEIU voted to endorse Hillary Clinton as the candidate best able to move our agenda in the nation’s highest office.

As one of three 32BJ officials on the SEIU Executive Board (along with Executive Vice President Larry Engelstein and Secretary Treasurer Kyle Bragg), I want you to hear from me first that 32BJ is supporting the SEIU’s endorsement of Hillary Clinton for President of the United States.

Earlier this month your 32BJ Executive Board voted to support the SEIU’s endorsement and agreed Hillary Clinton is the best choice for president in recognition of the importance of unity – as we say, we’re Stronger Together.

Over the next year we must work with our 2 million brothers and sisters across the country to make sure that we win on the issues affecting working families every day. And we can’t do that as 32BJ alone – the stakes are too high.

Not only have Republican candidates ignored our requests to weigh in on the issues that matter to our members, they have come out publicly and consistently in opposition to everything we stand for, voicing vindictive xenophobia and deep anti-worker sentiments. We must not let them succeed in their attempts to rig the game in favor of corporate interests and the 1%.

We feel that Hillary Clinton is the presidential candidate best-placed to deliver on our agenda:

  • Winning the Fight for $15 all workers, including airport workers;
  • Comprehensive, commonsense immigration reform;
  • Racial and social justice;
  • Winning the fight against corporate greed and corporate control of politics and policy;
  • Taking meaningful action in the fight against climate change.

We trust her vision on these issues, and believe this is an excellent opportunity to elect the first woman as president.

Click here to see how Hillary Clinton compares to the Republican presidential candidates on the issues that matter to 32BJ members, and I hope you agree that she is the best, most experienced person for the job.

I also hope you’ll join your brothers and sisters in 32BJ’s 11 states and Washington DC in turning out in numbers we’ve never seen in 2016 to make real change in our communities.
