Washington, D.C. Security

32BJ President Mike Fishman joined D.C. security officers and city
council members to announce the historic contract victory in April, 2008.

Every day in our nation's capital, hundreds of thousands of people rely on security officers to keep them safe. We provide crucial services in this post 9/11 world. All too often, however, we don't get the respect we deserve.

Our contractors and the real estate industry are not providing us with the compensation that we need to adequately support our families and build secure futures. We deserve better!

Private security officers presented Brown with a plaque to recognize his work to pass the Enhanced Professional Security Amendment Act in January and for participating in Local 32BJ’s challenge to walk a day in an officer’s shoes last November. Brown co-introduced the bill which sets the wage and benefit level for more than 1,500 security officers protecting private commercial office buildings at $11.51 per hour plus $3.16 for benefits.
