Retirement Services
A Secure Pension and a Dignified Retirement
Your union retirement benefits include a monthly pension check and a Supplemental Retirement Savings Program ("SRSP") consisting of an annuity and a voluntary 401(k). As a new member, two of your main goals should be getting vested in order to ensure your pension, and accumulating service credits to make your pension benefit grow.
According to the terms of your contract, your employer is required to make weekly contributions to your SRSP after you have worked for 24 months. And once you have worked for 6 months, you may be eligible to make your own additional pre-tax contributions to your 401(k). This involves voluntarily having a portion of your paycheck automatically deposited directly into your 401(k) account.
The union has fought long and hard to create a pension plan for members and to improve it over the years. We seek pension program improvements in every contract we negotiate.
Education Services: The Thomas Shortman Training Program
