32BJ SEIU Statement on Malloy’s Primary Victory

The following statement can be attributed to Kurt Westby, Connecticut State Director of 32BJ SEIU. 32BJ endorsed Dan Malloy for governor in May.

“Connecticut voters sent a clear message today that they want a governor who will create good, middle class jobs, and Dan Malloy has the experience and leadership needed to grow our state’s economy.  Dan has a long track record of job creation and standing up for working people.  32BJ congratulates him on his primary victory, and we will work tirelessly to ensure that he is our state’s next governor.”

SEIU 32BJ, known for its strength in mobilizing members and voters to support endorsed candidates, is promising a voter outreach campaign in support of Malloy’s election.  The union played a key role in the competitive election of Jim Hines in 2006.  During the 2008 elections, 32BJ was a key part of the larger SEIU program through which staff, volunteers and members door-knocked and called more than 1 million households in support of President Obama and other progressive candidates.

With 120,000 members on the East Coast—including 4,500 in Connecticut—32BJ SEIUis the largest property service union in the country.  The union represents commercial cleaners, security officers, property service workers and food service employees throughout the state.
