32BJ SEIU Announces Endorsements for US House of Representatives

Hartford, CTSEIU 32BJ has formally announced its endorsements for the Connecticut delegation to the US House of Representatives. The union’s executive board voted unanimously to back all five incumbents because of their experience in standing up for the state’s working families. The following statement can be attributed to Kurt Westby, Connecticut Director of 32BJ SEIU:

“Right now, more than ever, Connecticut needs a unified delegation in Washington that will stand up to special interests and fight for our state’s working families. These representatives will work with the federal and state governments to create the good jobs and economic growth we need.”

32BJ SEIU has endorsed:

Rep. John Larson (1st District)

Rep. Joe Courtney (2nd District)

Rep. Rosa DeLauro (3rd District)

Rep. Jim Himes (4th District)

Rep. Chris Murphy (5th District)

All five of the candidates voted for health care reform and financial reform.

SEIU 32BJ, known for its strength in mobilizing members and voters to support endorsed candidates, is promising an extensive voter outreach campaign in support of each candidate’s election. The union played a key role in the competitive election of Jim Hines in 2006. During the 2008 elections, 32BJ was a key part of the larger SEIU program through which staff, volunteers and members door-knocked and called more than 1 million households in support of President Obama and other progressive candidates.

The union announced support for Dan Malloy for Governor in April.

With 120,000 members on the East Coast—including 4,500 in Connecticut—32BJ is the largest property service union in the country. The union represents commercial cleaners, security officers, property service workers and food service employees throughout the state.
