32BJ SEIU: GOV. CHRISTIE’S PROPOSED BUDGET CUTS ARE
IRRESPONISBLE AND SHORT-SIGHTED

The following statement can be attributed to Kevin Brown, New Jersey State Director for 32BJ SEIU. The union represents 8,500 workers in New Jersey, including more than 1,000 school cafeteria workers.

“Governor Christie’s proposed budget cuts are irresponsible and short-sighted. In a time when we should be preparing our state’s students for increased global competition, the Governor wants to strip much needed resources from our children’s education.

“It is particularly disturbing that Christie wants to cut $3 million from child nutrition funding. This cut flies in the face of growing evidence that nutritious school food is vital for our children’s health and ability to learn.
“Gov. Christie and the State Legislature should not trade our children’s health and future for short-term political gain”
