Statement by 32BJ SEIU in Support of Stop and Shop Workers

32BJ SEIU, representing over 120,000 building service workers on the East Coast including 4,400 in Connecticut, fully supports the United Food and Commercial Workers at Stop and Shop. Two Connecticut UFCW locals, 919 and 371, have voted unanimously to authorize a strike. Negotiations between the UFCW and the grocery chain continue this week.

“The hard working men and women at Stop and Shop who have helped make the company successful deserve a good wage and quality, affordable health care,” said Kurt Westby, Connecticut Area Director of 32BJ SEIU. “32BJ SEIU supports the UFCW workers’ decision to strike if necessary, and will ask our members not to shop at the grocery chain if workers are forced to walk off the job to get the wages and benefits they need.”
