The following statement responding to Mayor Fenty’s proposed “Comprehensive Procurement Reform” legislation is attributable to Jaime Contreras, 32BJ SEIU Capitol Area Director:
“Fenty’s proposal would further weaken contracting standards that left our students unprotected and officers without pay when the City’s security contractor collapsed. District workers and residents need the Mayor to protect their hard-earned taxpayer dollars from back-room deals with irresponsible companies.”
32BJ SEIU, which represents 1,500 private security officers who safeguard District offices, called on the District to adopt vigorous responsible contracting standards.
With more than 120,000 members in six states, including 15,000 in the D.C. Metropolitan Area, 32BJ SEIU is the largest property service workers union in the country.
