New York, NY – After a membership-driven six month endorsement process involving candidate interviews, policy briefings and a commitment to the union’s “New Deal” policy agenda, 32BJ announced today its complete list of Manhattan endorsements for the 2009 elections, which includes Scott Stringer for Manhattan Borough President and nine incumbent City Council members from Manhattan.

“New Yorkers need a New Deal – a set of public policies that will help create good jobs and keep our City vibrant and affordable,” said Mike Fishman, President of 32BJ. “These candidates demonstrated both the leadership and the commitment to make this City work for working families.”

The union also announced today its endorsement of Mayor Michael Bloomberg for re-election citing his record on creating good jobs, support for raising security industry standards and launching a Green Building initiative.

In addition to Borough President Stringer, 32BJ is supporting Manhattan City Council members Alan Gerson for Council District 1; Rosie Mendez for Council District 2; Christine Quinn for Council District 3; Daniel Garodnick for Council District 4; Jessica Lappin for Council District 5; Gale Brewer for Council District 6; Robert Jackson for Council District 7; Melissa Mark-Viverito for Council District 8 and Inez Dickens for Council District 9.

“This group of candidates has a long history of helping New Yorkers get out of poverty and into the middle class,” Fishman said.
