Hartford, CT – The families of cleaners who work in Connecticut’s state buildings and universities will rally to save their health care at the Capitol on Thursday. House Speaker Donovan, Hartford Mayor Perez and several state legislators will offer their support and commitment to override the Governor’s veto of the bill that would keep them insured. Without this vote, the children will lose their health care coverage on August 1, 2009 because the state agencies underfunding of their parents’ benefits.
During the regular legislative session, both the House and the Senate voted overwhelmingly to pass HB 6502, the bill which would protect the health care of 350 children and save the state millions of dollars. Governor Rell’s veto on July 2 has put these children’s health care in jeopardy and squandered an opportunity for significant cost savings. HB 6502 is projected to save the state $4.3 million over the next seven years.
