32BJ: Keeping New York Secure

In the past five years, more than 9,000 New York City security officers have joined with 32BJ’s Stand for Security campaign to raise standards in the industry.

Every day, members of 32BJ in New York protect tens of thousands of people and billions of dollars in property in the city’s financial, public and university sectors.  The rapidly growing union is the largest organization for security officers in the city and has won improvements for workers including:

• In July 2009, thousands security officers who work for the city gained an $8.50 raise in wages and benefits.
• Hundreds of workers at New York universities and financial institutions have formed a union with 32BJ in the past year, raising the quality of life for their families.
• 32BJ has worked with the city, law enforcement and the real estate industry to provide a state-of-the-art training program for private security officers to develop the skills they need to keep our city safe and secure.

But the fight for a safe New York is not over.  32BJ is continuing to stand with officers throughout the city to improve training, wages and benefits.
