32BJ: Protecting Our Nation's Capital

In Washington, DC, 32BJ SEIU has been working with responsible security contractors to enhance training, raise industry standards and improve lives for security officers.

  • The union signed its first-ever agreements with top private security contractors in the District in 2008—providing nearly 1,500 private security officers with higher wages, health care and other benefits.
  • 32BJ also helped City Council pass into law the Enhanced Professional Security Amendment Act which dramatically raised the wage and benefit level for thousands of security officers protecting private commercial office buildings.
  • 32BJ was key in pushing through landmark legislation that provides paid sick leave for officers and other service workers.
  • Recently won a five-year contract with the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center that provides significant improvements in wages and benefits for 71 private security officers who keep guests, employees and visitors safe and secure at the Gaylord’s Prince George’s County property.

In the coming years, 32BJ will continue to grow and advocate for better security and better jobs in DC.
